Creative Ways to Increase your Earnings.
I don’t know many people who aren’t interested in earning a little bit of extra money. If you have large amounts of debt to pay off, have suffered a job loss or are going through some other financial difficulty, finding ways to earn money extra money becomes a very important goal. The good news it that your means of earning money are limited only by your imagination and ingenuity. For those looking for inspiration, here are some ideas that may or may not work for you.
1. Pick up an extra part-time or seasonal job. This type of job could be retail, it could be a cleaning job, or it could be a lawn service job. There are all kinds of businesses that need help on a temporary basis. Alternatively, your skill set may allow you to do freelance work (i.e., extra plumbing jobs on the weekend, logo design in the evenings, etc.) in your primary career path. Check your local newspaper and Craigslist for ideas.
2. Mow lawns/run errands/babysit/dog sit for your neighbors. Your neighbors are a
huge untapped market for miscellaneous jobs. Try passing out flyers, advertise in your community newsletter or just take a walk around your neighborhood and introduce yourself. You might be surprised how many people wish they had a little bit of extra help but have no idea who to call.
3. Sell your junk. A garage sale is always a good idea. Most people’s houses are stuffed to the rafters with things they don’t need or want. Accomplish two great things at once. Clean out your house and make some extra cash. If you don’t like standing in the hot sun, try Ebay. You can sell all of your old books, cds and dvds. Sell your children’s old toys and clothes. The sky is the limit.
4. Some people are big fans of online surveys and mystery shopping. If you find a reputable company, you can make a little bit of money doing it, but you will have to decide if the time you spend is worth what you earn.
5. If you are at all crafty, you might try making things for resale. Some people sew pillows, others make picture frames/gun racks/bookcases and the like. Some people make jewelry or pottery. You can sell these items on Ebay, at flea markets, craft fairs, garage sales, etc. The one thing you should not do is sign up with a company that claims it will pay you for assembling items at home. These are always SCAMS!
6. Grow fruits and vegetables. This sounds crazy, but even on a small suburban lot you can grow enough fruits and vegetables to not only sustain your family but have extras to sell at the farmers’ market. This is a great way to earn a little bit of extra cash and achieve some independence as well.
7. And, of course, the best way to make extra money is to simply reduce spending. Think of it as a raise you can give yourself any time you want it.
